Fun with the Brouwer Kids

Scotty and I were able to participate with the Brouwers while they decorated their Christmas tree this year. It was so fun to see how excited the kids got, especially Micah and Chloe. Jude was more interested in throwing the glass bulbs and watching them shatter!  I love seeing Christmas through the eyes of children.  I find that I’m often pretty jaded when Christmas rolls around.  The busy-ness that it requires, the rampant commercialization of a sacred holiday, the pressure, I can easily allow all those things to steal my joy during the “festive season.”  But when I see children throwing themselves into the celebration with all they have, it reminds me to stop being such an old crumudgeon and get into the spirit.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from our tree decorating party:

The finished product. Yes, 80% of the ornaments were hung on about 20% of the tree and we had some rearranging to do in order to prevent the tree from toppling over, but it was so much fun to see the kids do this.

Do these children have a mother?? You’d think she would at least wash their faces and quickly comb their hair…. poor uncared for things.
