The Last Heroes of the Peninsula

Last-Heroes-of-the-Peninsula

Last night I got free tickets to The Last Heroes of the Peninsula, a movie about Mexican boxers from Merida, a small town on the Yucatan Peninsula.  In a short space of time this town was able to produce FIVE world champion boxers!  The odds of that happening are ridiculous! I enjoyed the film but was frustrated with the subtitles – they were terrible.  I can’t speak Spanish and I could tell that the translation was incomplete in a serious way.  I would guess that about 30-50% of the dialogue was actually translated, meaning I missed out on quite a bit.  And the translation was terrible – it was a very literal translation and the result was that the dialogue was very stunted. Additionally the subtitles were full, and I mean chock full, of typos.  I think this movie would do so much better if the subtitles were more complete because it is a very interesting story.  Oh well…the tickets were free so I cannot complain too much.
