Weekend Review

Well it’s almost a new weekend but I wanted to post some pictures from last weekend before this one kicked off.  Last Friday we hosted a BBQ for New College and it was a lot of fun to meet new people and see old friends.  We managed to get over 60 people into our garden and enjoyed some American style burgers and hot dogs.  The next day I was a bit tired but joined Amanda for Open Doors day and checked out one of the private schools here in Edinburgh.

We hit it right with a gorgeous fall day.

Afterwards I went home and was reading on the couch when I noticed the beautiful light coming through the window.

I am finding more and more things to like about Edinburgh and it’s an especially beautiful city during the bright autumn days that we sometimes are blessed with.  Most of the time it’s grey and drizzly but lately we have had a few really amazingly gorgeous days.

On Sunday we explored the caves under South Bridge.  This city-under-a-city at one time housed over 50,000 poor souls who lived in these underground vaults in dire poverty.  Can you imagine living here with no natural light?  The vaults were infested with vermin and disease ran rampant.  So incredibly sad.

We went on the tour with our friends Sean and Meghan and had a fun, if somewhat disturbing, time learning about the underbelly of Edinburgh society.

And that was basically our weekend.  Do you have any fun plans for this weekend?

Thank you for the pictures of “underground” Edinburgh. I had always wondered about it. When Marty and Holly and I went several years ago, Holly took a quick trip down there. She left me with the impression that it was haunted. I see that it could easily be so.

So proud of you, Becca — congrats on your award on your site!
Had a great time with Mom, Pop, Tot and Katie this weekend.
So excited about your coming to SoCal on 11/17. Hear that Faye will pick you up. We would love to have you stay in our nice, quiet guestroom — just ask Tot about it! Can hardly wait to catch up in person. Love to Scotty too. Love ya, Aunt Cori

Don’t know if my earlier comments went through. We’d love to have you stay with us in Nov. when you get to Socal.
