Today we turned our clocks back and it’s goodbye British Summer Time…which means it is now 5PM and basically dark. Long, cold, dark winter here we come! This has definitely been one of the most difficult things I’ve had to adjust to since moving to Edinburgh. The summer nights are gloriously bright and temperate but the winter nights are far too long for my liking. As this will be my fourth winter here in Scotland, I have a pretty good idea of what to expect and how to deal with the short days – my main strategy being to leave for warmer climes to visit family for an extended period of time. OK – maybe that’s more of an escapist approach but I do find it effective.
On another note – are you thinking of moving overseas? Check out Expat Arrivals. It’s a website that works on consolidating information for people who are relocating from another country. They asked me to contribute to a few sections on Edinburgh and it’s been fun to work on gathering information and sharing experiences that will, hopefully, help other people who are moving or considering a move to Scotland. If you’re thinking about moving overseas they have information from “local experts” in many countries in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa – sorry but nothing for South America yet.
