Weekend Roundup

This past weekend was busy.  We had a birthday party, a Christmas Pudding Party, dinner with friends, and we set up our Christmas tree.  Whew!

Saturday we joined a bunch of friends to celebrate the birthdays of Nigel and Christine.  Their little son was the host and did a great job!

After that it was off to a Christmas Pudding tasting party.  Our friends Megan and Sean had never tasted British Christmas Pudding and we hadn’t either so we got together to give it a try.  Megan provided five (yes, five) different puddings.  For those of you who don’t know, a Christmas pudding is a sort of steamed bread-y concoction stuffed with dried fruit and soaked in some sort of alcohol.  It is traditionally lit on fire and served with custard.  It was a fun culinary adventure trying out a bunch of different puddings – although I don’t think that any of us could taste much of a difference between the varying flavors.  I think that the five of us who tried them have all had our appetite for pudding sated for at least a year!  Here Megan is serving the flaming dessert  – not a great picture but it’s hard to capture flaming confection.

Sunday saw Scotty and I finishing up some Christmas shopping and enjoying the decorations that are popping up around town.  As we’re headed to the States in a little bit, we decided to pull out the Christmas tree and set it up so that when we got home our little flat would feel nice and festive.  It will also make it more fun for our friends who will be staying at our flat while we are gone!  I know I’ve admitted to being a grinch in the past and this is most definitely earliest I’ve ever decorated a Christmas tree, but it was a lot of fun…

And then it was off to Joe and Amanda‘s for a delicious dinner.  A great weekend filled with time with good friends and a building anticipation for the holidays ahead.

And here’s something completely random.  While we were walking around on Saturday, Scotty and I spotted this:

Life Education Bus

Does that look shady to anyone else?

Beautiful picture of you and Scotty! Can’t believe we’re actually going to see you in the flesh soon!
And yes, that is a super sketchy bus . . . is that some sort of hammer and sickle also?

I wouldn’t let my kids within 200 feet of that bus!! Not sure what version of “life” they are teaching, but it doesn’t look promising. Just because you put a giraffe on something doesn’t make it kid friendly. Did it get tagged by an anarchy group? That red graffiti looks like it! Portland is one of the capitals of anarchy, so we see that symbol around a lot. Love you guys and cant wait to see you!!

Loved your Christmas Tree! All festive and welcoming!! Looooove Christmas trees and decorating them, playing the funny Christmas music as we go, hot cocoa and of course, the grand finale of watching The Santa Clause!! Such are my family’s traditions. The White bus was definitely on the questionable side and it wasn’t just the graffiti that sends up the red flags of worry! Hugs to you!!

Love the idea of putting up a tree so early to fully enjoy the celebration of our Lord’s birth. Is that a Scottish tradition?
Great pix of you and Scott! See you in a couple of days!!
    Hurray!

Is it just my screen or do I see “snow” falling on these holiday pictures?!
